@Waitman Gobble Finally I got this one: Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro 14ACN6 Storm Grey, Ryzen 7 5800U, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, DE (82L7003NGE)

You need kernel at least 5.11. That's why I installed Ubuntu 21.04. Wifi did not work. So I followed https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw89 .

I like the speed 8 cores, 16 virtual threads and the display because it is 16:10 (not 16:09) and is non glare.
32 GB RAM would be better for me. Now it's 16 GB what might be a bit less for several virtual machines and some python scripts for example to recognize faces in our collection of fotos.
Not so good is battery life. It lasts just some hours, far away from a whole working day. Hopefully this will change over time with new kernels?

Removed Windows. I clicked through all the questions during install. WTF, the "whole world" will get my data. No.

I am still not sure about the Platform Security Processor (PSP) („AMD Secure Processor“ = Intels Management Engine). My hard disk is completly encrypted but there is doubt left that the PSP is able to store all key strokes and more, keys for example? It gets a bit disturbing if you combine this with all the recent law changes in Germany that allow (many kind) of polices and the secret services to install troyans on everybodys computer for many reasons.

Overall I am quite happy. My son got a HP ENVY x360 13-ay0779ng 13,3" FHD IPS Touch, Ryzen 7 4700U, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD. He likes the touch display and the small size. You can use it as tablet. It is powerfull enough for his Blender projects. I really can recommend this one.

With the AMD the gpu might be different, i will look

The specs on lenovo say that laptop has the nvidia mx450 gpu, but the processor specs say it has on chip raydeon. There's probably a bios setting to switch between discreet and integrated graphics. The raydeon should more than double your battery time (guessing). AMD is publishing more open source drivers to Linux so the quality ahould be good and improving....historically AMD has not been open source friendly. Nvidia as well, however they do publish good proprietary drivers for Linux and FreeBSD.

Thanks for the hint and your thoughts. Sadly it has no such setting.

I had some trouble with the lenovo notebook

sudden shut down for unknown reason, 2 times (on battery and loading)

flickering display when the external monitor was plugged in. This happened only once.

the kernel update deactivated the wireless LAN again. Could not get it running the same way it worked before

So I gave it back yesterday and bought myself the same as my son has, a HP ENVY x360 13-ay0779ng 13,3" FHD IPS Touch, Ryzen 7 4700U, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD. It is a little bit slower. On the other side Ubuntu works out of the box, it is smaller, you can use it as tablet and it has a touch display (really like that).

On the HP Envy I could not find a BIOS setting for the graphic card to switch it off. And honestly I do not dare to fiddle around much with the graphics card settings. Ubuntu even failed to change the display resolution for the build-in monitor. This happened on both notebooks (lenovo and hp). Ok, I could re-install Ubuntu...

Overall I really can recommend the HP. My son is happy too.
